Just spent the last few hours reading blogs and finding some new people to keep an eye on. The following three links are to blogs I have stumbled upon and are all worth a read:
Andrew Bruce Smith looks at how much technology firms are spending on social media
Richard Millington lists the dos and don’ts of outreach
Todd Defren examines whether social media will help PR weather the storm.

Fellow technology PRO Steph at the Berkeley Midlands office pointed this story out to me which I thought was particularly interesting. According to the BBC Microsoft is attempting to boost usage of its search facility by offering users prizes under a scheme called search Perks.
For every keyword search carried out via Live Search users will get points which can be used to exchange for prizes such as music downloads, airmiles and books. The program of rewards is only available in the US and there are limits to how many searches a day will be rewarded.
Doesn’t sound too bad eh? That is until you start looking into it further as dot life blogger Rory Cellan-Jones did. Apparently the top prize is a wireless Xbox 360 controller but unfortunately Rory got his calculator out and realised that even if you did 25 searches a day (the maximum permitted in the competition rules) for the 197 days until the promotion ends you still wouldn’t amass enough points to win that prize.
PR stunt gone wrong?
